The International Xacobeo Congress returns to Compostela

The International Xacobeo Congress returns to Compostela from November 13th to 15th

The Galician capital is preparing to host a new edition of the International Xacobeo Congress, to be held from November 13th to 15th. The event, organized by the Xacobean Academy in collaboration with the Interuniversity Society of Philosophy, the Galician Society of Japanese Studies, and the Galicia Millennium Forum, will revolve this year around the theme: “The Way of St. James, a meeting of cultures. A philosophy of hospitality.”

The activities will begin on November 13th at the emblematic Hostal dos Reis Católicos with the celebration of the 1st International Xacobeo Meeting. There, leading professors from universities in Spain and various European countries, along with members of the Xacobean Academy, will analyze the Way of St. James as a space for intercultural dialogue and coexistence.

On Thursday the 14th, the program will move to the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). In the morning, the 5th International Symposium on Japanese Studies will take place, while in the afternoon, the 18th International Encounters of Philosophy on the Camino de Santiago will be held, with the participation of professors from Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish universities, as well as researchers from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).

That same afternoon, the book “Philosophy and the Meaning of Life: Compostela Discourses” by the philosopher Antonio Pieretti, who passed away in 2022, will be presented. The work, published by Sindéresis and coordinated by Marcelino Agis, compiles the author’s interventions at previous Compostela encounters.

On Friday the 15th, the activities will move to the Afundación headquarters on Rúa do Vilar. There, the 5th International Symposium on Galician Thought will be held, focusing this time on the figure of Castelao. Several professors from the USC will address the work and thought of this philosopher from Rianxo from a philosophical perspective.

During the event, the fifth Sapientia Prize will also be awarded, an honorary recognition of outstanding academic careers. This year, it will be awarded to Professor Ángel González Fernández, retired professor from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
