A march for peace in Ukraine and in support of the Camino Podolico

Dear members of Camino Europa Compostela, dear Camino friends,

On Sunday 21 June 2026 — the summer solstice, the longest day of light — we invite you to walk with us for peace.

Camino for Peace in Ukraine is a simultaneous walk along Camino routes across Europe, on the same day, at the same hour, in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all who suffer from war.

WHY WE WALK

The Camino de Santiago — Europe’s first cultural itinerary — has united the peoples of our continent for 1,200 years across more than 80,000 km of routes through 29 countries. It has endured every chapter of our history, including our wars, and has always led us back to one another.

The Camino de Santiago in Ukraine represents a symbolic space of freedom for our Ukrainian friends, who can walk it during these turbulent times. This route is a symbol of the values upon which Europe was founded: democracy, mutual respect, spirituality, hospitality and, ultimately, freedom and peace.

Camino Europa Compostela wishes to support its Ukrainian member, the ‘Association of Friends of St James’ Way in Ukraine’, as well as its sister association, the ‘Camino Podolico’, through tangible action.

We’ll walk in solidarity with Ukrainian people and pilgrims.

The Camino endures. Ultreia, Ukraine. Europe stands with you.

THE IDEA IS SIMPLE

Each member association organizes a walk of 10–15 km along a Camino route in its own country.

Every walk begins with the same opening ritual — a minute of silence for all war victims, followed by a short prayer or reflection.

Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and yellow. May be you’ll find a Ukrainian flag.

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

  1. Confirm your participation by June 10th
  2. Nominate a local coordinator and send us their email and mobile phone number
  3. Choose your route (you can organize walks along several parts of your Camino)
  4. Share the invitation with all your members and supporters
  5. If possible, contact and invite local Ukrainian and Spanish ambassadors to join and support.

WHAT CEC PROVIDES

Once you confirmed, we send you a complete organisers’ kit:

  • Press release templates
  • Walk coordinator briefing document
  • Access to the WhatApp coordination group connecting all countries to exchange photos of your walk
  • Pilgrim certificate — print-ready files in your language to provide as a souvenir to your members

On 21st June, pilgrims across Europe will walk as one.

Will your association or federation be among them?
